AS Student Blog Rules

Site Title

Your blog is a marked piece of work and therefore needs to be easily discoverable and appropriately titled. Please do not deviate from the following Site Title conventions:

  • Robert De Niro’s AS Media Studies Blog
  • Ryan Reynolds’ AS Media Studies Blog

Note the capitalisation and punctuation – both must be correct.

If you wish to personalise the title, please do so through the Tagline.

Site Title and Tagline can be changed in the WordPress Dashboard (Dashboard / Settings / General).

In order to make your blog accessible to the examiner, you should define and use Categories.

Every post on your blog should appear in just one category.

Please define only the following:

  • My Media
  • Institutions and Audiences
  • Representation in TV Drama
  • Preliminary tasks
  • Pre-Production
  • Production
  • Post-Production
  • Evaluation Tasks

Categories can be defined in the WordPress Dashboard (Dashboard / Posts / Categories).

You should use tags to further index the content on your blog. You need to avoid being either too specific or too general. Tags that reference just one post are meaningless, as are tags that reference hundreds…

It might be useful to think of Categories as folders that contain all your work on a particular project. Tags, on the other hand, identify particular components of that project. Tagging would allow your storyboards, script, and poster from various projects to be viewed side by side.

Every post on your blog should have at least one tag. Feel free to choose whatever tags you think are appropriate, but bear in mind that they need to be useful: strike a balance between being too specific and too general, having too many tags and too few.

Tags can be defined in the WordPress Dashboard (Dashboard / Posts / Tags).

WordPress gives you a vast array of themes to choose from, but not all themes are created equal. You will have to read the theme description carefully, and it might take a bit of trial and error, but you need a theme that supports the following:

  • Categories
  • Tags
  • Sidebar
  • Menus
  • Viewing a post in its entirety, without any clicking

…and will ideally support the following:

  • Infinite scroll
