Media Department Development Roadmap 2013-2014

Communication:

  • ✅ Meet with teachers to discuss current Communication provision.
  • ✅ Meet with Simon Furness and Christine Panton to discuss rooming and staffing requirements.
  • ✅ Rewrite scheme of work for teaching in September, 2014.
  • ✅ Publish all Communication documents on the Media Studies website.

GCSE Media Studies:

  • ✅ Re-evaluate OCR Media Studies specification and make decisions about teaching topics.
  • ✅ Re-schedule controlled assessment tasks across the two years.

AS Media Studies:

  • ✅ Re-evaluate OCR Media Studies specification and make decisions about teaching topics.
  • ✅ Re-schedule coursework to avoid deadline clashes with A2 students.
  • ✅ Re-schedule theory topics to avoid theory-frenzy in the run-up to exams.
  • ✅ Weave introductions to A2 theory topics into AS teaching schedule to mitigate ramp from AS to A2.

A2 Media Studies:

  • ✅ Re-evaluate OCR Media Studies specification and make decisions about teaching topics.
  • ✅ Re-schedule coursework to avoid deadline clashes with AS students.
  • ✅ Re-schedule theory topics to avoid theory-frenzy in the run-up to exams.

Media Studies Department:

  • ✅ Evaluate department resources and write shopping/wish lists.
  • ✅ Develop robust and manageable pupil-tracking system.
  • ✅ Produce “headline figures” for observation/inspection purposes.
  • ✅ Upgrade iMacs to latest software releases and iron-out bugs encountered this year.

Media Studies Website:

  • ✅ Update/refresh all current website pages.
  • ✅ Add to current website content to obviate need for a printed department handbook.
  • ⛔️ Produce technical “how to” videos to facilitate practical tasks at all levels.
  • ⛔️ Write and publish department expectations for student notes at GCSE, AS, and A2.
  • ⛔️ Write and publish department marking and feedback policy for GCSE, AS, and A2.
  • ✅ Write parental handout for open evenings, etc.: “Why Media Studies matters”.
